A man accused of murdering a woman in Raiwaqa, Suva, last month made his first appearance in the High Court in Suva yesterday. Anare Vuli Cilicewa, 31, faces one murder charge in connection with the death of Sabreen Shahib Ali, allegedly occurring on September 9.

During the hearing, Cilicewa informed the court that he did not yet have legal representation but had submitted an application to the Legal Aid Commission. State Prosecutor Zenith Zunaid stated that the prosecution required an additional seven days to prepare full disclosures. He also mentioned that further police investigations were necessary and that additional information would be provided at the next court session.

The case was adjourned until October 16 to allow for updates on Cilicewa’s legal representation and the required disclosures. Meanwhile, Cilicewa’s production order was extended. Before concluding the session, Zunaid noted he would be attending another court case but would ensure another prosecutor handled the proceedings on his behalf.
