A man accused of murdering a woman in Raiwaqa, Suva, last month made his first appearance in the High Court in Suva yesterday. Anare Vuli Cilicewa, 31, faces one count of murder for allegedly killing Sabreen Shahib Ali on September 9 in Raiwaqa.

During the proceedings, Cilicewa mentioned that he did not have legal representation at that time but had submitted an application for assistance from the Legal Aid Commission. State Prosecutor Zenith Zunaid informed the court that they required an additional seven days to present full disclosures and noted that further police investigations were underway, which would lead to additional information being provided at the next court session.

The court adjourned the case until October 16 to confirm Cilicewa’s legal representation and to allow for the filing of complete disclosures. Additionally, Cilicewa’s production order was extended. Before the adjournment, Zunaid indicated that he would be attending another court matter but would ensure another prosecutor was assigned to handle Cilicewa’s case in his absence.
