A man accused of murdering a woman in Raiwaqa, Suva, last month made his initial appearance in the High Court in Suva yesterday. Anare Vuli Cilicewa, 31, is facing a single charge of murder in relation to the death of Sabreen Shahib Ali, alleged to have occurred on September 9.

During the court proceedings, Cilicewa stated that he did not yet have legal representation but had submitted an application for assistance from the Legal Aid Commission. State Prosecutor, Zenith Zunaid, informed the court that they required seven additional days to file complete disclosures. He also mentioned that police are still conducting further investigations, which will result in more information being presented at the next court hearing.

The case has been postponed until October 16, allowing time to confirm Cilicewa’s legal counsel and finalize disclosures. Meanwhile, Cilicewa’s production order has been extended. Zunaid indicated that he would be attending another court matter but would ensure that another prosecutor would represent him in this case.
