Anare Vuli Cilicewa, who is facing murder charges, has decided to withdraw his bail application while awaiting a psychiatric report from Saint Giles Psychiatric Hospital. During a court appearance in Suva today, presided over by Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu, Cilicewa was charged with one count of murder in connection with the death of Sabreen Shahib Ali, which occurred on September 9, 2024, in Raiwaqa, Suva.
Cilicewa’s attorney, Manisha Singh, informed the court that they are still in the process of obtaining the psychiatric report, which is essential for understanding the situation surrounding the bail application. She explained that the principal medical officer needs to be aware of the charges against Cilicewa to conduct a thorough assessment.
Justice Bulamainaivalu emphasized the importance of providing complete disclosures to the doctor to facilitate a comprehensive evaluation. He suggested that Singh should meet with Doctor Kiran Gaikwad to share the necessary information while maintaining the confidentiality of the disclosures.
Additionally, state prosecutor Zenith Zunaid reported that police are in the process of preparing supplementary disclosures. He mentioned that the autopsy report indicated signs of strangulation and choking in the victim’s death.
The case is scheduled to continue on December 3, during which the court will review the psychiatric report.
