Anare Vuli Cilicewa, who is facing murder charges, has opted to withdraw his bail application as he awaits a psychiatric evaluation from the Saint Giles Psychiatric Hospital. During today’s proceedings in the High Court in Suva, presided over by Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu, it was confirmed that Cilicewa stands accused of the murder of Sabreen Shahib Ali, which allegedly took place on September 9, 2024, in Raiwaqa, Suva.

Cilicewa’s attorney, Manisha Singh, informed the court that the application for bail had not yet been filed because they are still in the process of obtaining the psychiatric report. She emphasized the necessity for the principal medical officer at Saint Giles to have a clear understanding of the charges against Cilicewa to conduct a thorough assessment.

Justice Bulamainaivalu stressed the importance of providing the required disclosures to the medical professional, suggesting that Singh should personally meet with Doctor Kiran Gaikwad to deliver the information needed without violating confidentiality protocols.

State Prosecutor Zenith Zunaid added that the police are currently preparing additional disclosures related to the case. He noted that the autopsy findings indicated evidence of strangulation and choking in the victim.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for December 3 to review the status of the psychiatric report.

In light of the ongoing legal proceedings, it is essential to maintain the integrity of the judicial process while ensuring that all parties receive fair treatment and consideration. This situation serves as a reminder of the complexities involved in legal cases, particularly those involving mental health assessments. The upcoming report will play a crucial role in addressing these complexities.

Overall, while the case presents serious allegations, there is hope for a thorough legal process that upholds justice for both the accused and the victim’s family.
