The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has pressed charges against a 79-year-old male, accusing him of raping and indecently assaulting a 13-year-old girl.

According to the ODPP’s Rape and Sexual Offences Statistics for June 2024, it’s reported that a 59-year-old man sexually abused and raped his 15-year-old niece. Similarly, charges of rape were filed against a 40-year-old man, accused of assaulting his 19-year-old niece.

Further, a 33-year-old male faced charges for raping his 15-year-old niece. A 42-year-old was charged with raping his 42-year-old wife, however, due to a lack of sufficient evidence, this case was discontinued.

Charges were also imposed on a 20-year-old man, who was alleged to abuse an 11-year-old girl. Additionally, a 38-year-old male was accused of raping and indecently assaulting a 13-year-old girl from his community.

In another incident, an 18-year-old male was charged for sexually defiling a 14-year-old girl.

The ODPP also noted that four cases were dropped after filing discontinuances (Nolle Prosequi) due to insufficient or inconsistent evidence, inability to locate or contact victims, or in cases where the accused had passed away.
