Northern New City Tourism Development Pte Limited has initiated a significant multi-million-dollar tourism project at Korovatu, Labasa. Located near a picturesque picnic spot with views overlooking Mali Island and Malau, the project site was recently inspected by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica.
The managing director of Northern New City Tourism Development, Ma Xianlin, a tourism developer from China, shared his enthusiasm for the initiative. Following his visit to Fiji as a tourist in 2018, Xianlin purchased a 151-acre piece of land in 2022. He expressed gratitude towards Investment Fiji for their support and guidance throughout the development process.
Xianlin detailed that approximately $5 million has already been invested in the initial phases of the project, which include significant site upgrades. Plans are in place for the construction of a hotel, resort, guest house, cantilever swimming pool, mini cable car, mountain top steps, and other tourism-related amenities aimed at enhancing creative activities in the area. The entire project will be executed in stages, estimated to take around five years to complete.
During his visit, Kamikamica voiced his admiration for the project’s initial development stages, praising the site’s elevation and the stunning views it offers. He expressed optimism that the residents of Northern Fiji will benefit from the new tourism attractions, experiencing lifestyle elements reminiscent of foreign tourist destinations. The Deputy Prime Minister also encouraged Xianlin to seek assistance from the government or his ministry as needed.
This impressive venture underscores a growing commitment to elevate tourism in the region, promising to create new jobs and opportunities for the local community while enhancing the overall appeal of Vanua Levu as a tourist destination.
In summary, this ongoing development signifies not only the potential economic benefits for Labasa but also enriches the visitor experience, paving the way for a more vibrant tourism landscape in Fiji.
