Northern New City Tourism Development Pte Limited is launching an ambitious multi-million-dollar tourism project in Korovatu, Labasa. This site is conveniently located near the popular Korovatu picnic area, offering stunning views of Mali Island and Malau. Recent developments were highlighted during a visit from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Communications Manoa Kamikamica.
The project’s managing director, Ma Xianlin, a tourism developer from China, bought the 151-acre land after visiting Fiji as a tourist in 2018, ultimately acquiring it in 2022. He expressed gratitude to Investment Fiji for their support throughout the process.
“We have invested around $5 million in the initial development stages, which include upgrading the site with plans for a hotel, resort, guest house, cantilever swimming pool, mini cable car, mountain top steps, and various tourism-related amenities to enhance visitor experiences,” Mr. Xianlin stated. He indicated that the construction would occur in phases, with an estimated completion timeframe of five years.
Deputy Prime Minister Kamikamica commended the initial progress of the development, emphasizing the breathtaking vistas provided by the elevated site. He noted how this project could significantly enhance the tourism experience for both locals and visitors to the North.
Kamikamica encouraged Mr. Xianlin to contact the Government if he required further assistance, underscoring a collaborative approach that could lead to greater support and improved development outcomes.
This initiative holds great promise for the local economy, potentially creating jobs and stimulating growth in the tourism sector while offering an exciting array of activities for both tourists and residents.
In summary, the Korovatu project represents a significant step forward for Vanua Levu’s tourism landscape, reflecting the potential for economic revitalization and enhanced visitor experiences in the region.
