A motion by Independent Member of Parliament Jone Usamate to remove $3 million from the Pacific Polytech Institute and $5 million from the University of the South Pacific’s outstanding grant in the 2024-2025 national budget was defeated in parliament.

Usamate argued that the short-term programs provided by Polytech have long been offered by the Fiji National University (FNU).
