Motikiai Murray Eyes Comeback: The Road to Rugby Stardom Begins!

Motikiai Murray, a former student of Ratu Kadavulevu School and open-side flanker for the Fijian Drua, is looking forward to an exciting season next year. The 21-year-old from Lovoni, Ovalau, in Lomaiviti province, is regaining his fitness after undergoing ankle surgery in Sydney a few months ago. He has family ties to Nukuni-i-cake, Ono I Lau.

Murray shared his current focus on rehabilitation, stating, “I’m just concentrating on my rehab and have been preparing well for the upcoming season.” While he hasn’t started running yet, he hopes to take part in field sessions soon.

He made his debut with the Drua during the Super Rugby Pacific quarterfinal against the Crusaders in June of last year. Learning from senior players on the team, Murray is eager to make his debut for the Flying Fijians.

Growing up, he was inspired by the Flying Fijians flanker Levani Botia, whom he admires for his strength in defense and breakdown. “I loved watching him and aspire to be that player one day,” he expressed.

Murray enjoys playing alongside seasoned players, who were once his idols, and stated, “Playing with them has been exciting, and my main focus is to stay fit and give my best during the season.”

He is eagerly awaiting the right opportunity to represent the national team and mentioned that he is willing to play at number 8 if called upon. Over the past two seasons, Murray has participated in six matches for the Drua.
