Motibhai Group’s HR Excellence: A Legacy of Leadership and Innovation

Motibhai Group, which has been in operation for over 90 years in Fiji, continues to be recognized as a leader in the local business community. The company, which provides a wide range of products from consumer goods to luxury items, currently employs over 1,200 Fijians across its various outlets and factories.

At the 2024 Fiji Human Resources Institute (FHRI) Awards in Suva, Motibhai Group garnered five prestigious awards, highlighting its commitment to excellence in human resource practices, according to Sanjay Kumar, the Group Manager for People Culture, Administration, and Insurances.

The awards included:

– Gold Award for HR Talent Development
– Gold Award for HR Environment and Sustainability in Practice
– Silver Award for HR Emerging Leader (Artika Devi – Human Resources Coordinator)
– Bronze Award for HR Visionary Leader (Kirit Patel – Chairman and CEO)
– Bronze Award for HR Transformative Leader (Sanjay Kumar)

Kumar stated that these accolades are a reflection of the Group’s innovative approach to employee management, development, leadership, diversity, and inclusion. He noted that in a competitive market for top talent, the awards highlight their efforts to create an environment where employees can excel and advance in their careers.

He emphasized that the company has a legacy of resilience and adaptability in response to changing market conditions. From its origins as a small grocery store, Motibhai has evolved into a major player in Fiji’s business sector by actively seeking out new opportunities, investing in technology, and modernizing operations.

Under the guidance of CEO Kirit Patel, the company has consistently demonstrated strong and visionary leadership, navigating economic challenges while ensuring sustainable growth. Kumar mentioned that continuous investments in employee development, along with engagement from local and international trainers, have cultivated a skilled workforce.

Regarding his recognition as the HR Transformative Leader, Kumar expressed pride in his role in driving organizational transformation. This award represents his second national-level acknowledgment, following a Gold Award for HR Manager of the Year in 2023.

He attributes his successes to a commitment to employee empowerment and innovative HR strategies, alongside the inspiration drawn from working with Kirit Patel. He also praised his HR team for their dedication to excellence and employee well-being.

Among their accolades, the Gold Award for HR Environment and Sustainability in Practice stands out, signifying the company’s commitment to sustainable business practices. Kumar noted that this recognition sets a benchmark for other businesses in Fiji in terms of contributing to environmental conservation.
