Moce Secondary School emerged victorious over Cicia High School by 48 runs in the 2024 Fiji Secondary School National Men’s U19 Cricket Tournament held in Suva. With this win, Moce Secondary was crowned the champions of the tournament, and the team celebrated as several players were chosen to join the Fiji national team.

According to a government statement, eight players from Moce Secondary have been selected to participate in an upcoming cricket tournament in Japan. In the tournament, Suva Grammar School secured the third place by defeating Ratu Finau Secondary School by five wickets in the playoff.

Following their victory, the Moce team visited President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere at his residence, where he challenged them to pursue contracts with international cricket franchises. He commended the team’s achievement and encouraged the young athletes to aim for greater accomplishments.

Ratu Wiliame noted that students from rural and maritime backgrounds aspire to achieve their dreams upon arriving in Suva. He remarked, “You have just proved that last week when you outplayed your opponents and made your school and the vanua Delaimakotu proud.” He further encouraged the students to be ambassadors of cricket back on their island.

He emphasized the global appeal of cricket and the responsibility of players to pursue their dreams. “You have a lot to offer to the sport of cricket,” he stated, urging them to strive to become skilled batsmen, fielders, and wicketkeepers. Ratu Wiliame expressed hope that one among them would secure an overseas contract and mentioned his desire to hear good news from Macuata in the future.

Additionally, President Katonivere expressed his gratitude to the supporters of the Moce cricket team, including the vanua Delaimakotu, parents, teachers, and fellow students, for their invaluable assistance.
