Vinaina Tabua Marawa, a resident of Nasole HART, expressed her excitement after being crowned Miss Nasinu at the 2024 Vodafone and Gavya Nasinu Festival on Saturday. She highlighted the pressing issue of domestic violence affecting homes and communities.
Marawa was among seven contestants in the competition, which took place after a four-year hiatus of the Nasinu Festival. She emphasized the importance of addressing domestic violence, given the significant number of women and children impacted in local areas.
“Being crowned Miss Nasinu is a significant milestone towards my goal of becoming an agent for change,” she stated. Marawa acknowledged the competition’s intensity and thanked her mother for her steadfast support throughout the event.
She described the festival as a unifying event for the Nasinu community, aimed at breaking down barriers. Marawa, who previously participated in the Miss Hibiscus Festival’s teen category at 16, views such events as vital platforms to promote dignity and respect.
“The week-long festival focused on advocacy and fostering change at the national level, and I am eager to use my voice for this cause,” she added.
Marawa believes initiating change starts at home. Drawing from her experiences as the eldest of eight siblings raised by a single mother, she recognized the considerable responsibilities she undertook. Despite the difficulties of managing household tasks alongside her studies, she credited her mother’s unwavering support as a key factor in her success.
