Vinaina Tabua Marawa, a resident of Nasole HART, expressed her excitement after being crowned Miss Nasinu during the 2024 Vodafone and Gavya Nasinu Festival on Saturday.
Marawa emphasized the urgency of addressing domestic violence, highlighting the significant impact it has on women and children in local communities. She was one of seven contestants in the competition, which had not taken place for the past four years.
“Winning the Miss Nasinu crown is a stepping stone for me; I aim to be an agent for change,” Marawa stated. She acknowledged the competitive nature of the event and thanked her mother for her constant support throughout the competition.
The festival served as a unifying event for the Nasinu community, aimed at breaking down barriers. Marawa previously participated in the Miss Hibiscus Festival’s teen category at the age of 16, and she views such events as opportunities to serve with dignity and respect.
“This week-long festival focused on advocacy and fostering change at the national level, and I am eager to utilize my voice for this important cause,” she declared.
Marawa believes that true change starts at home. As the eldest of eight children raised by a single mother, she reflected on the considerable responsibilities she has taken on. Despite the challenges of balancing household responsibilities with her education, she credited her mother’s steadfast support for making her journey fulfilling.
