Miss Hibiscus Contestant’s Harassment Claim Sparks Police Investigation

Police have initiated an investigation into a sexual harassment complaint made by a contestant of the Miss Hibiscus pageant. Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that a report was filed at the Totogo Police Station on Friday, and an investigation is currently underway.

The incident came to light last week when a contestant alleged she was inappropriately touched by a guest during the crowning event on September 7. This allegation prompted Minister for Local Government Maciu Nalumisa to request an internal investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident.

Mr. Nalumisa emphasized the need for professionalism to protect the interests of all contestants. He stated, “We will get to the bottom and find out what really happened,” and expected the investigation to conclude this week.

Prior to lodging the complaint, the contestant had intended to wait for a witness returning from abroad. However, after discussing with her family, she decided to proceed with the report to the police without further delay. She accused a reportedly intoxicated man of jabbing her on the back and stated that she promptly alerted event officials.

Mr. Nalumisa also remarked that alcohol consumption can never justify such inappropriate conduct.
