Authorities are set to investigate a sexual harassment complaint made by a contestant in the Miss Hibiscus pageant. Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that a report was filed at the Totogo Police Station on Friday, and an investigation is currently underway.
Allegations surfaced last week regarding inappropriate behavior during the crowning night on September 7, when a contestant reported being inappropriately touched by a guest. This prompted action from Minister for Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa, who has initiated an internal investigation to clarify the events of that evening.
Minister Nalumisa emphasized the importance of professionalism and the need to protect the dignity of all contestants. He expressed his commitment to uncovering the truth and expects the investigation to be concluded this week.
The contestant officially filed her complaint at the Totogo Police Station after discussions with her family, despite initially considering waiting for a witness who was overseas. She alleges that a reportedly intoxicated man jabbed her on the back and stated that she promptly reported the incident to event officials.
Nalumisa reiterated that alcohol should never be used as justification for such inappropriate conduct.
