Miss Hibiscus Contestant Alleges Shocking Harassment at Crowning Night

Authorities have initiated an investigation into a sexual harassment allegation made by a contestant of the Miss Hibiscus pageant. Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that a report was filed at the Totogo Police Station on Friday, prompting an active investigation.

The allegations surfaced last week when a contestant reported being “jabbed on the back” by a guest during the crowning ceremony on September 7. This incident gained attention from the Minister for Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa, who has mandated an internal inquiry to uncover the facts surrounding the event.

Mr. Nalumisa emphasized the importance of professionalism to ensure the safety and dignity of all participants. He expressed confidence that the investigation would reveal the truth of the matter and expected it to conclude within the week.

Following the incident, Mr. Nalumisa communicated with Tevita Boseiwaqa, the chairperson of the Suva City Council special administration, who is involved in the investigation. The contestant formally submitted her complaint to the police after initially considering waiting for a witness, who was out of the country, to return. After discussing it with her family, she decided to proceed without further delay.

The contestant claims the alleged assailant, described as intoxicated, jabbed her in the back, and she reported the misconduct to event officials immediately afterward. Mr. Nalumisa underscored that alcohol consumption should never justify such unacceptable behavior.
