Miss Hibiscus Contest Sparks Police Investigation After Harassment Claims

Police are investigating a reported sexual harassment incident involving a contestant from the Miss Hibiscus pageant. Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that a report was filed at the Totogo Police Station last Friday, prompting an investigation.

The allegations surfaced last week when a contestant accused a guest of inappropriately touching her during the crowning ceremony held on September 7. This situation attracted the attention of the Minister for Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa, who has initiated an internal investigation into the claims.

Minister Nalumisa stated that a team is currently looking into the circumstances of the incident to clarify what transpired that night. He emphasized the importance of professionalism to protect the dignity of all contestants and vowed to discover the truth behind the allegations.

The Minister expects the investigation to be completed within the week. He contacted Tevita Boseiwaqa, the special administration chairperson of the Suva City Council, who is also part of the investigative team.

The contestant has officially filed a complaint with the Totogo Police Station. Although she initially planned to wait for a witness to return from overseas before proceeding, she ultimately decided to report the incident without further delay after discussing it with her family.

The contestant claims that a man, who was reportedly intoxicated, jabbed her in the back during the event, and she immediately reported the incident to event officials. Minister Nalumisa stated that alcohol consumption should never be used as an excuse for inappropriate behavior.
