Miss Hibiscus Celebrates Victory and Faith: A Journey Beyond the Crown

Melania Tora, the newly crowned 2024 Miss Hibiscus, remained enthusiastic and grounded amid the week’s celebrations, attending church to express her gratitude to God for her victory. The 24-year-old expressed that giving thanks and praising God was essential to her.

Tora, who has ties to Vanuabalavu in Lau, looks forward to celebrating her win with her family in Sabeto. After a service at the USP Laucala Campus, she shared her thoughts on her faith, stating, “Being with Jesus is so wonderful. I am not perfect, but I have had my own journey and testimony.” She emphasized that God’s support made her feel victorious regardless of the crown she wore.

Expressing her appreciation for the support from her community, Tora remarked, “For the vanua to stand behind me is something I didn’t know I needed, but I did. They have been a great support, sending me messages, and I am grateful.”

She plans to continue her advocacy work for marginalized groups, noting her preparation for this role over the last two years. Tora has been involved with cancer survivors, sex workers, juveniles, and the organization Inspire Pacific, stating, “I believe this platform allows me to advocate for these organizations and their work. We need to see some real, sustainable change.”

Reflecting on her experience, Tora conveyed her gratitude for the friendships she developed with other contestants, saying, “It has been a privilege to be on this platform and to get to know all the wonderful women and everyone involved.” She acknowledged the challenges faced during the journey, marked by emotional moments, but reaffirmed her strength through faith and a robust support system.

Tora encouraged future participants of the Miss Hibiscus pageant to take the leap, regardless of their background, emphasizing, “If you feel you have what it takes to make a real difference in the community, I encourage you to take that risk. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
