Miss Hibiscus ’67: Four Contestants Set to Shine

The 1967 Miss Hibiscus contest garnered significant attention after the contest committee announced in The Fiji Times that they were pleased with the number of participants. The newspaper reported a press release that revealed the identities of four out of the eight contestants competing in this year’s event.

Initially, the committee was expecting to receive 18 entries, according to The Fiji Times. The latest entrants announced were Miss Clara Hoong, Miss Linda Hadden, Miss Annette Lepper, and Miss Ann Ah Jack.

Clara Hoong, 19, works as a stenographer and enjoys reading, dressmaking, playing indoor basketball, badminton, and going to the movies. She is sponsored by Bridgestone Tyres in partnership with Caines Jannif Limited.

Linda Hadden, 20 and also a secretary/stenographer, is sponsored by Burns Philp (South Sea) Company Limited. Her interests include horse riding, swimming, dancing, and reading.

Annette Lepper, 21, works as a receptionist/clerk and is sponsored by The Fiji Hotel Association. She enjoys swimming, water-skiing, reading, and cooking.

Nineteen-year-old Ann Ah Jack, a cashier, is sponsored by Morris Hedstrom Limited. Her hobbies are basketball, dancing, gardening, meeting people, and collecting records.

The contestants’ full schedule was prepared before the festival began on September 7 and concluded on October 8, 1967.
