Miss Hibiscus 2024 Celebrated in Traditional Village Ceremony

Melania Tora, crowned Miss Hibiscus, received a heartfelt traditional welcome in her village of Sabeto, Nadi, on Saturday. The community, known as the Vanua o Betoraurau, celebrated her achievement with great enthusiasm, recognizing her efforts in promoting her village, Nadi, and Fiji on an international level, as stated by clan leader Kiniviliame Mokotanavanua.

The festivities featured the presence of Tui Sabeto, Ratu Viliame Mataitoga, who expressed pride in Ms. Tora’s accomplishment, describing it as a source of hope and inspiration. “Congratulations to our amazing vulau (daughter)!” Ratu Viliame exclaimed.

Ms. Tora, who was sponsored by Tents and Awnings, won the title only two weeks prior. During the celebration, Ratu Viliame emphasized her representation of the village’s spirit and heritage.

“Your name is not just your own, but the name of your vanua and chiefly house, Na Momo na Tui Sabeto, has been recognized throughout Fiji and beyond. We appreciate how you have honored your roots,” he stated.

In response, Ms. Tora expressed her gratitude to her chief and the community for their continuous support during the festival. “It was through your guidance and prayers that I was able to win the Miss Hibiscus crown. Thank you,” she said.
