Miss Hibiscus 2024: A Crowned Journey of Faith and Giving Back

The reigning 2024 Miss Hibiscus, Melania Tora, remained undeterred by the week’s festivities as she attended church to express gratitude to God for her victory. She emphasized the importance of giving thanks and praising God as essential in her life.

The 24-year-old is eager to celebrate her success with her family from Sabeto, highlighting her maternal roots in Vanuabalavu, Lau. After a service at Fiji Connect held at the USP Laucala Campus, she shared her feelings about her spiritual journey, stating, “Being with Jesus is so wonderful. I am not perfect in any way, shape, or form, but I have had my own journey and testimony.”

Tora reflected on the grace and love she has received, saying, “I can do things like these because He is with me, and because He is with me, I know I am victorious with the crown or no crown, since the victory is already with Him.” She expressed her surprise and gratitude for the support from her community, acknowledging the messages of encouragement she has received.

She mentioned her plans to celebrate with her supporters soon, expressing excitement for the recognition they have given her. Tora expressed her commitment to advocating for those in need, drawing from her experiences over the past two years working with various community groups, including cancer survivors and juveniles.

“I believe this platform allows me to advocate for these organizations and their work on the ground. We need to go beyond them and see some real, sustainable change. I am excited to continue this work and hopefully involve more of my fellow Fijians,” she stated.

Tora also expressed gratitude for her fellow contestants, appreciating their contributions and the bonds formed during the competition. Despite the challenges and emotional experiences, she regarded it as a privilege to be part of the event and acknowledged the strength she draws from her faith and support system.

She offered advice to potential participants for next year, encouraging them to take the leap if they feel driven to make a difference in their community. “It may be uncomfortable, but it is a once in a lifetime, amazing experience,” she asserted.
