Miss Hibiscus 2024, Melania Tora, remained steadfast in her gratitude despite the week’s excitement and activities, attending church to express thanks for her victory. The 24-year-old highlighted the importance of giving thanks and praising God, describing it as essential.
Anticipating celebrations with her family from Sabeto, Tora also noted her maternal ties to Vanuabalavu in Lau. After the service at Fiji Connect hosted at the USP Laucala Campus, she shared her journey and faith, acknowledging, “Being with Jesus is so wonderful. I am not perfect, but I have my own testimony.”
Tora expressed gratitude for the support she received, stating, “For the vanua to stand behind me is something I didn’t know I needed, but I did.” She looks forward to celebrating with her community, feeling overwhelmed by the love and encouragement she received during the week.
Ms. Tora emphasized her commitment to supporting various community initiatives, stating, “Without even realizing it, I have been preparing for this platform for the last two years.” Her work involves advocacy for cancer survivors, sex workers, and juveniles, as well as collaborating with organizations like Inspire Pacific.
She expressed her gratitude for the other contestants, saying, “It has been a privilege to be on this platform and to know all the wonderful women involved.” Despite the challenges, she found strength in her faith and appreciated the support system surrounding her.
Tora encouraged future participants, stating, “If you are considering to participate next year, please do so. It doesn’t matter where you come from or what ethnicity you are.” She urged others to take the leap if they feel they can make a difference in their communities, emphasizing that it provides a unique and rewarding experience.
