Miss Hibiscus 2024: A Celebratory Homecoming in Sabeto

Miss Hibiscus, Melania Tora, received a traditional welcome and honor ceremony in her village of Sabeto, Nadi, on Saturday. The community of Sabeto, known as the Vanua o Betoraurau, celebrated her victory, highlighting how she has promoted Nadi and Fiji globally, as stated by clan leader Kiniviliame Mokotanavanua.

The event was graced by the presence of Tui Sabeto, Ratu Viliame Mataitoga. He expressed pride in Ms. Tora, noting that her success serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for many. Ratu Viliame congratulated her, calling her an “amazing vulau,” which translates to “daughter.”

Ms. Tora, who was sponsored by Tents and Awnings, was crowned two weeks ago. During the celebration, Ratu Viliame emphasized how Ms. Tora has showcased her cultural roots with pride, representing her village and honoring her heritage. He noted that while her personal name may not be widely recognized, her village’s name and the legacy of Na Momo na Tui Sabeto have gained prominence across Fiji and beyond.

In her remarks, Ms. Tora expressed gratitude to her chief and the support she received from her vanua throughout the festival. She acknowledged that her achievement as Miss Hibiscus was made possible through their guidance, support, and prayers, thanking them for their unwavering encouragement.
