Ministry of Health Urges Community Support for Nurse Safety

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has emphasized that the protection and welfare of healthcare workers assigned to nursing stations and health centers nationwide is a primary concern.

In a recent statement, the Ministry condemned actions by individuals or communities that show disrespect or create fear among medical personnel who dedicate themselves to serving in these locations.

The Ministry acknowledged ongoing challenges in securing a replacement nurse for the Naililili Nursing Station in Rewa, following a series of robberies at the nursing station’s quarters in December. Currently, the nurse assigned to Naililili is based at Wainibokasi Hospital and visits the station monthly to facilitate Maternal Child Health Clinics and Special Outpatients Clinics. Additionally, a laborer is assigned to clean the nursing station once each month.

As part of its plan, the Ministry intends to erect a fence around the nursing station and carry out other minor renovations. It has also called upon the community to help ensure the safety of healthcare workers serving across the country.
