“Ministry of Education Takes Stand Against Violence in School Sports”

The Ministry of Education has expressed strong condemnation following an incident where a bus was stoned after the Eastern zone Deans rugby competition over the weekend.

Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro will be meeting with the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union today to discuss the future participation of schools and students involved in violent and unruly behavior.

Radrodro stated that the Ministry of Education will not hesitate to suspend schools from participating in the Dean’s competition if such behavior from schools and students endangers the safety of others.

“Students and teachers are reminded that sports are a unifying activity and a professional career path for many Fijians, and we cannot allow the sport to be tarnished by such indiscipline and violence,” Radrodro emphasized.

He is urging all schools and students to urgently engage in serious discussions on this matter.

“Schools and students should be aware that provincial teams have previously been suspended from local competitions due to violent and unruly behavior from fans or teams. We will not hesitate to consider the same actions,” Radrodro added.

“The safety of the general public, students, and fans is paramount,” he said.
