The Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, recently paid tribute to Semi Bukarau, a senior welfare officer from her ministry who passed away last week after a brief illness. Ms. Kiran expressed profound sorrow as she led her ministry’s delegation in accompanying Mr. Bukarau on his final journey home.
“It’s a heartbreaking farewell for an officer who dedicated himself to serving our communities well. Mr. Bukarau’s contributions to the welfare sector were significant, and we are deeply grateful for his dedication and commitment. His death is a loss felt across the communities he served,” remarked Ms. Kiran.
Mr. Bukarau was 47 years old and had an impressive 27-year career in the Fiji Civil Service, spending 24 years as a welfare officer within the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection. The delegation included notable figures such as Permanent Secretary Eseta Nadakuitavuki, Commissioner Central Josefa Navuku, and other ministry personnel.
This tribute emphasizes the invaluable impact that dedicated public servants can have on their communities. It reminds us of the importance of compassion and commitment in public service, illustrating how one individual’s legacy can inspire future generations to continue the work of helping others.
While this is a time of mourning, the community can take solace in the positive changes Mr. Bukarau had fostered throughout his career, encouraging others to carry forward his legacy of service and dedication. His memory will undoubtedly inspire many to contribute meaningfully to the welfare of their communities.
