Ministerial Staffing Revamp: What Changes Are Coming?

The Ministry of Employment has successfully filled a significant number of vacant positions across all divisions, enhancing its ability to provide services to the public. Permanent Secretary Maritino Nemani reported that approximately two-thirds of the ministry’s vacant posts have been filled.

In a recent assessment of the 2022 Auditor General’s Report on the General Administration Sector, Nemani noted that there were 31 vacant positions in 2022 and 2023. To date, the ministry has filled a total of 52 vacancies, which includes vacancies carried over from the previous year. The discrepancy in numbers is attributed to staff resignations and turnover.

Nemani emphasized the ministry’s improved strategies for attracting talent and filling vacancies, which has resulted in a minimal number of remaining open positions. He acknowledged the past challenges faced by the ministry regarding human resources capabilities and staff workload.

The enhancements have significantly increased the capacity of offices in Lautoka, Labasa, and the Central Eastern region to deliver services more effectively to the community.
