Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has officially terminated Lynda Tabuya from her role as the Coalition Government’s Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection. In a statement, Mr. Rabuka announced that Sashi Kiran will take over this position.

The decision follows the release of a nude video of Ms. Tabuya that was leaked earlier this week. Mr. Rabuka emphasized that the choice was not made lightly but was deemed necessary for the welfare of the public they represent. He confirmed that Ms. Tabuya will continue to serve as a Member of Parliament.

“This decision is made in light of recent conduct concerning Ms. Tabuya and the standards expected of ministers,” Mr. Rabuka explained. He invoked his constitutional authority under Section 92(3)(b) to effect the dismissal immediately.

This change in leadership reflects the government’s commitment to uphold integrity and accountability within its ranks. Moving forward, the appointment of Sashi Kiran could symbolize a fresh start and renewed focus on issues concerning women, children, and social protection in Fiji.

In a broader context, such ministerial changes can serve as a reminder of the importance of personal conduct for public officials, maintaining trust and confidence in government.
