Heads of schools and their management committees have received a formal notice due to their failure to adequately maintain their institutions. This warning from Education Minister Aseri Radrodro follows the troubling conditions observed at Nabua Primary School, where public funds designated for maintenance have allegedly been mismanaged, leading to a decline in the school’s infrastructure.

Minister Radrodro emphasized the need for school committees and local communities to take an active role in overseeing their educational facilities, stating that the overall quality of education is compromised when such responsibilities are neglected. In response, he has initiated plans to engage community leaders, stakeholders, and district officials to collaboratively address the infrastructural issues faced by schools.

In a related matter, the minister dismissed assertions from a Natusara Primary School committee member regarding transportation problems that reportedly hindered student attendance. He clarified that the situation had not impacted the Year 8 examinations, as they had already completed their assessments earlier. Classes have resumed normally, with transport services reinstated for students. Furthermore, Minister Radrodro assured that transport payments are being processed according to the standard rate and clarified the time frame for the processing of these payments.

The Ministry is requesting that vendors looking for additional financial support submit appropriate documentation, including requests from service providers, endorsements from community members, and cost analyses, to ensure a smooth workflow for payment requests.

This situation highlights the importance of accountability and the active involvement of local communities in education. Stronger partnerships between schools and their communities can lead to more effective solutions for maintaining school properties and enhancing the quality of education overall.

In summary, while there are ongoing challenges within the education system, the proactive measures being taken by the government and community involvement can lead to significant improvements in the future.
