Northern New City Tourism Development Pte Limited has launched a significant tourism development project in Korovatu, Labasa, marking a promising investment in the region. The site, which offers a picturesque view of Mali Island and Malau and is situated near a local picnic area, received a visit from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Communications Manoa Kamikamica.
The project’s managing director, Ma Xianlin, a tourism developer from China, first visited Fiji as a tourist in 2018 and subsequently purchased the 151-acre land in 2022. Expressing gratitude towards Investment Fiji for their support, Xianlin announced that approximately $5 million has already been allocated for the initial phase of development, which includes site upgrades. Plans for the development encompass a hotel, resort, guest house, cantilever swimming pool, mini cable car, and mountain-top steps, aiming to enhance the region’s tourism offerings.
Xianlin shared that the project is set to be executed in stages over a period of five years, ensuring a comprehensive development process. Kamikamica expressed his admiration for the progress made thus far, highlighting the breathtaking views that the area provides not only for tourists but also for locals. He emphasized the importance of such projects in allowing the people of the North to experience an overseas-style tourism lifestyle.
For ongoing support, Kamikamica encouraged Xianlin to engage with government bodies and his ministry for any assistance needed.
This ambitious project reflects a growing commitment to enhancing Fiji’s tourism infrastructure, promising new opportunities for the local economy and the potential to attract more international visitors.
In summary, the Korovatu project represents an exciting chapter in Fijian tourism, with hopes of transforming the region into a vibrant destination that fosters economic growth and cultural exchange.
