A 24-year-old man has been remanded in custody following allegations of stealing a firearm from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces. The court is scheduled to hear his bail application today.
The accused, Sitiveni Tavakece, appeared at the Nadi Magistrate’s Court yesterday facing two charges of theft and one charge of possessing a firearm without a license. On September 25, he is alleged to have dishonestly taken a 9mm pistol valued at $1,500. Additionally, he is accused of stealing three souvenir medals from the RFMF.
Reports indicate that the state plans to add a third charge against him today. The case has been adjourned to 9:30 am for further mention, and bail has been denied.
