A pioneering open-heart surgery at the Pacific Specialist Healthcare Hospital (PSH) in Nadi marks a significant milestone for the facility, showcasing its advanced medical capabilities. The successful operation, known as a Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG), was performed on 61-year-old Kusum Lata from Natabua, facilitated by a skilled team of Cardio Thoracic specialists.
Lata, a mother of three, expressed her profound gratitude to the PSH management and staff for delivering care at a fraction of the expected cost. Initially faced with severe chest pains and a minor heart attack back in June, Lata’s family had been informed by doctors in Lautoka that the surgery would require $50,000 and a trip to India. A family member encouraged exploring local options, leading them to PSH, where they were pleased to find that the procedure could be performed on-site for a fraction of the price.
Post-surgery, Lata reported feeling relieved and free from pain, extending her heartfelt thanks to PSH founder Parvish Kumar and the entire medical team. She expressed eagerness to reunite with her family, especially her grandchild.
Parvish Kumar highlighted that the establishment of the cardiology department and the successful surgery was a product of 15 months of dedicated planning, investment in cutting-edge technology, and teamwork. He emphasized the significance of Lata’s case, remarking that it provided hope and excellent care at a significantly reduced cost compared to international expenditures.
Kumar also shared that this landmark surgery not only exemplifies the hospital’s capabilities but also positions Fiji as a potential health tourism destination, offering advanced healthcare services at competitive rates.
