Mick’s Fiji Tours has announced a sponsorship commitment exceeding $5,000 for the upcoming Vatulele Sevens tournament. This initiative aims to not only elevate the facilities available for athletes but also to enrich the broader community.

Sitiveni Nawaqa, the owner of Mick’s Fiji Tours, made this announcement during the official launch at their Nadi office. He emphasized that the tournament, scheduled for December 19-20 at the Vatulele District School, is more than just a rugby event; it symbolizes the spirit of community, resilience, and the tremendous potential of young athletes.

“Rugby transcends mere sport; it serves as a unifying force that fosters passion and teamwork,” Nawaqa stated. He underscored the importance of grassroots rugby, highlighting its role in shaping the future of society by investing in youth and nurturing their talents for character development and lifelong friendships.

With personal ties to Ekubu Village, Nadroda, Nawaqa expressed his determination to support not just rugby but the foundational communities that nurture the sport. “As a proud sponsor, we are thrilled that our investment will enhance village infrastructure,” he noted, recognizing that resilient communities foster environments where sports can flourish.

Filipe Qionikorolevu, the tournament director, shared that proceeds from the event will go towards improving school facilities, sports fields, and youth training programs. “We aim to create safe spaces for children and future athletes to develop their skills and engage more actively in sports and the community,” he said.

The tournament will feature a prize pool where the men’s rugby champion receives $5,000, the runner-up takes $2,000, and losing semifinalists receive $500 each. Meanwhile, the winning women’s netball team gets $1,000 and the runner-up $500.

Treasurer Asesela Naborisi remarked, “Together, we can build a legacy that demonstrates that with hard work, commitment, and teamwork, there are no limits to what can be achieved. Let us come together to celebrate our talents and invest in a brighter future.”

Support for the event also comes from various sponsors, including Kele Na Mahi Flyer, Vatulele Island Beach Estates, Goodman Fielder, Coca-Cola, Shop 2 Save, and Creative Box Graphix.

The upcoming tournament not only promises exciting competition but also drives significant community development, showcasing a hopeful future for both athletes and the broader Vatulele community.
