Mick’s Fiji Tours has announced a sponsorship commitment exceeding $5,000 for the upcoming Vatulele Sevens tournament. This initiative is designed to enhance facilities that not only benefit the athletes but also uplift the entire community.

During the official launch at the Nadi office, Sitiveni Nawaqa, owner of Mick’s Fiji Tours, shared the details of the two-day event, scheduled for December 19-20 at the Vatulele District School. He emphasized that the tournament symbolizes more than just a rugby celebration; it is a reflection of community spirit, resilience, and the immense potential of young athletes.

“Rugby transcends mere sport; it serves as a unifying force that brings individuals together, fuels passion, and fosters teamwork,” Nawaqa stated. He believes that grassroots rugby plays a vital role in shaping the future of society by investing in youth and nurturing their talents, ultimately paving the way for character development and lifelong friendships.

Nawaqa, who has familial ties to Ekubu Village, Nadroda, reaffirmed his dedication to supporting not just rugby but the foundational communities it represents. “As a proud sponsor, we look forward to our investment enhancing village infrastructure,” he remarked, recognizing that robust communities create optimal environments for sports to flourish.

Filipe Qionikorolevu, the tournament director, indicated that funds generated from the event would be directed towards improving facilities within schools, sports fields, and youth training programs. “We aim to create safe and accessible spaces for our children and future athletes, encouraging participation not only in rugby but in all forms of sports and community activities,” he noted.

The prizes for the tournament include $5,000 for the men’s winner, $2,000 for the runner-up, and $500 for each losing semifinalist. For women’s netball, the winner will receive $1,000, while the runner-up will take home $500.

Treasurer Asesela Naborisi inspired attendees, stating, “Together, we can build a legacy that demonstrates that with hard work, dedication, and teamwork, there are no boundaries to what can be achieved. Let us support one another, celebrate our talents, and invest in a promising future.”

Additional sponsors supporting the event include Kele Na Mahi Flyer, Vatulele Island Beach Estates, Goodman Fielder, Coca-Cola, Shop 2 Save, and Creative Box Graphix.

This event not only highlights the commitment to sports in Fiji but also showcases a collaborative effort to strengthen communities through positive engagement. With strong support and engagement, the Vatulele Sevens tournament has the potential to inspire a new generation of athletes while reinforcing community ties.
