Mick’s Fiji Tours has announced a sponsorship commitment exceeding $5,000 for the upcoming Vatulele Sevens tournament, an initiative designed to improve facilities for athletes and the wider community. This announcement was made by owner Sitiveni Nawaqa during the event’s official launch at their Nadi office.

Scheduled for December 19-20 at the Vatulele District School, the two-day event aims to celebrate rugby and underscore the community spirit, resilience, and the remarkable potential of young athletes. Nawaqa emphasized that rugby transcends mere sport, serving as a unifying force that brings individuals together, ignites passion, and promotes teamwork.

He remarked, “Grassroots rugby has the power to shape the future of our society. By investing in our youth and nurturing their talents, we can facilitate character development and foster lifelong friendships.” Nawaqa, who has familial ties to Ekubu Village in Nadroda, reinforced his commitment to supporting not just rugby but the foundational communities behind it.

He expressed, “As a proud sponsor, we are thrilled that our investment will go towards enhancing village infrastructure.” Nawaqa acknowledged the essential role of strong communities in supporting sports, stating their goal is to ensure local facilities reflect the heart and ambition of the Vatulele people.

Tournament director Filipe Qionikorolevu explained that the funds raised from the event will contribute to upgrading school facilities, sports fields, and youth training programs. “We aim to create safe and accessible spaces for our children and budding athletes, encouraging them to develop their skills and engage with sports and community activities,” he noted.

The tournament will reward participants with monetary prizes, including $5,000 for the men’s rugby winner, $2,000 for the runner-up, and $500 for each losing semifinalist. In women’s netball, the prize amounts to $1,000 for the winner and $500 for the runner-up. Treasurer Asesela Naborisi emphasized the importance of building a legacy through hard work, commitment, and teamwork, urging collective support to celebrate local talents and contribute to a brighter future.

In addition to Mick’s Fiji Tours, several other sponsors, including Kele Na Mahi Flyer, Vatulele Island Beach Estates, Goodman Fielder, Coca-Cola, Shop 2 Save, and Creative Box Graphix, are supporting this charitable event.

This tournament exemplifies how sports can ignite community development, paving the way for youth empowerment and engagement. The investment made in both facilities and local talent is a hopeful step towards a vibrant future for the Vatulele community.
