Mick’s Fiji Tours has announced a sponsorship commitment exceeding $5,000 for the upcoming Vatulele Sevens tournament. This generous initiative is designed to enhance facilities that will not only benefit athletes but also improve the overall welfare of the community.
During the official launch held at their Nadi office yesterday, owner Sitiveni Nawaqa emphasized that the two-day event, scheduled for December 19-20 at Vatulele District School, is much more than a rugby competition. It stands as a testament to community spirit, resilience, and the vast potential of young athletes.
“Rugby transcends being just a sport; it is a unifying force that connects individuals, ignites passion, and encourages teamwork,” Nawaqa stated. He believes that grassroots rugby has the capability to shape the future of society. By investing in youth and nurturing their talents, it opens avenues for character development and lasting friendships.
Nawaqa, who holds maternal ties to Ekubu Village in Nadroda, reaffirmed his commitment to support not only rugby but also the foundational values embedded in their villages and communities. He expressed enthusiasm about their investment being directed toward upgrading village infrastructure.
Recognizing the importance of strong communities, he commented, “We believe resilient communities create the best environment for sports to flourish. It’s important that our local infrastructure mirrors the passion and ambitions of the Vatulele people.”
The tournament director, Filipe Qionikorolevu, mentioned that the proceeds from the event would contribute to improving facilities in schools, sports fields, and youth training programs. “By creating safe and accessible spaces, we aim to cultivate an environment where our children and future athletes can refine their skills and develop,” he said, hoping that these enhancements will boost participation not only in rugby but in a variety of sports and community-related activities.
Winners of the men’s rugby category will receive $5,000, with the runner-up getting $2,000 and the losing semifinalists receiving $500 each. For women’s netball, the winner will take home $1,000, while the runner-up gets $500.
Treasurer Asesela Naborisi encouraged collaboration through his words: “Together, we can build a legacy that illustrates how hard work, commitment, and teamwork can achieve limitless possibilities. Let’s support one another, celebrate our talents, and invest in a brighter future.”
Other sponsors participating in this commendable initiative include Kele Na Mahi Flyer, Vatulele Island Beach Estates, Goodman Fielder, Coca-Cola, Shop 2 Save, and Creative Box Graphix.
This tournament not only promises thrilling sporting action but also embodies a significant communal effort toward upliftment and development, providing an excellent opportunity for local youth to thrive in a supportive environment.
