Mick’s Fiji Tours has committed more than $5,000 in sponsorship for the upcoming Vatulele Sevens tournament, a significant investment aimed at improving facilities for athletes and benefiting the wider community. The announcement was made by Sitiveni Nawaqa, the owner of Mick’s Fiji Tours, during the official launch held at their Nadi office.

Scheduled to take place from December 19-20 at the Vatulele District School, the two-day tournament represents much more than just a rugby event; it embodies community spirit, resilience, and the promise of young athletes. Nawaqa emphasized that rugby serves as a unifying force, igniting passion and fostering teamwork.

“It is crucial that we invest in our youth,” he stated. “By nurturing their talents, we can foster character development and lifelong friendships.” Nawaqa, who has deep familial ties to Ekubu Village in Nadroda, reaffirmed his dedication to supporting the foundations of rugby that lie in local villages and communities.

As a key sponsor, Mick’s Fiji Tours aims to channel investments into upgrading vital village infrastructure, reinforcing the belief that strong communities create an ideal environment for sports to flourish. “We want our local infrastructure to represent the ambitions and heart of the Vatulele people,” Nawaqa stated.

Filipe Qionikorolevu, the tournament director, shared that proceeds from the event would be utilized to enhance facilities in schools, sports fields, and youth training programs, creating safe spaces for children and future athletes. This initiative aims to inspire participation in various sports and engage local communities.

In terms of incentives, the rugby men’s champion will receive $5,000, while the runner-up is awarded $2,000 and losing semifinalists will each take home $500. For women’s netball, the winning team will earn $1,000, with the runner-up getting $500.

Treasurer Asesela Naborisi echoed the importance of community collaboration, stating, “Together, we can build a legacy that demonstrates that hard work, commitment, and teamwork can lead to limitless achievements.” Naborisi encouraged everyone to support each other and celebrate local talents while investing in a brighter future.

Additional sponsors for the tournament include Kele Na Mahi Flyer, Vatulele Island Beach Estates, Goodman Fielder, Coca-Cola, Shop 2 Save, and Creative Box Graphix, showcasing a community united in support of youth sports.

This initiative not only promotes sports but also revitalizes local infrastructure, paving the way for a more robust and connected community. The Vatulele Sevens not only celebrates athletics but cultivates hope and opportunity for future generations.
