Mick’s Fiji Tours has announced a generous sponsorship contribution of over $5,000 for the upcoming Vatulele Sevens tournament. This initiative is designed to improve facilities that support not only the athletes but also the local community as a whole.
Owner Sitiveni Nawaqa shared this commitment during the tournament’s official launch at the company’s Nadi office. The two-day event is scheduled for December 19-20 at the Vatulele District School and is more than just a rugby celebration; it symbolizes the community spirit, resilience, and the immense potential of young athletes.
Nawaqa emphasized that rugby is not merely a sport but a unifying force that fosters passion and teamwork. He believes that grassroots rugby has the power to shape society’s future by investing in youth and nurturing their talents, which can lead to personal growth and lasting friendships.
With personal ties to Ekubu Village, Nadroda, Nawaqa reasserted his dedication to supporting not just rugby but also the foundational communities behind it. Tournament director Filipe Qionikorolevu mentioned that funds raised will be used to improve facilities in schools, sports fields, and youth training programs, creating safer and more accessible spaces for children and future athletes to develop their skills.
The tournament will feature monetary prizes for winners, with the men’s rugby champion receiving $5,000, the runner-up $2,000, and semifinalists $500 each. The women’s netball champion will earn $1,000, while the runner-up will receive $500.
Treasurer Asesela Naborisi highlighted the importance of working together to establish a legacy that demonstrates the limitless potential of hard work, commitment, and teamwork. He urged everyone to support each other and invest in a brighter future.
