Mick’s Fiji Tours has committed over $5,000 in sponsorship for the upcoming Vatulele Sevens tournament. This funding aims to enhance facilities that will benefit not only the athletes but also the broader community.
Sitiveni Nawaqa, the owner of Mick’s Fiji Tours, made this announcement during the official launch at their Nadi office. The two-day tournament is scheduled for December 19-20 at the Vatulele District School and is envisioned as a celebration of rugby and a testament to community spirit, resilience, and the potential of young athletes.
“Rugby is more than a sport; it is a unifying force that brings people together, ignites passion, and fosters teamwork,” Nawaqa expressed. He emphasized that grassroots rugby has the ability to shape the future of society. By investing in the youth and nurturing their talents, he believes it is possible to foster character development and lasting friendships.
With family ties to Ekubu Village, Nadroda, Nawaqa reiterated his commitment to not only supporting rugby but also the foundational aspects of the community it represents. He stated, “As a proud sponsor, we are excited that our investment will be directed towards upgrading village infrastructure. Strong and resilient communities provide the best environment for sports to thrive, and we want our local infrastructure to mirror the aspirations of the Vatulele people.”
The tournament director, Filipe Qionikorolevu, explained that the funds raised will contribute to enhancing facilities in schools, sports fields, and youth training programs. “We aim to create safe and accessible spaces for our children and future athletes to develop their skills and grow. We hope these upgrades will not only boost rugby participation but also encourage involvement in various sports and community initiatives.”
The prizes for the tournament include $5,000 for the men’s rugby winner, $2,000 for the runner-up, and $500 each for losing semifinalists. The women’s netball winner will receive $1,000, with the runner-up getting $500.
Treasurer Asesela Naborisi remarked, “Together, we can build a legacy—a legacy that illustrates that with hard work, commitment, and teamwork, there are no limits to what can be achieved. Let us support one another, celebrate our talents, and invest in a brighter future.”
Other sponsors contributing to this initiative include Kele Na Mahi Flyer, Vatulele Island Beach Estates, Goodman Fielder, Coca-Cola, Shop 2 Save, and Creative Box Graphix.
