Michael Joe has made a notable return to the business scene. After the challenges posed by COVID-19, he has transitioned from a farmer and grocer to a landlord and now a property developer.
Yesterday, he celebrated a groundbreaking ceremony for a $6 million development project in the capital city. This initiative follows the closure of his well-known supermarket, Joe’s Farm.
The ceremony, held in Samabula, featured Tui Suva, Sanaila Madanavosa, who praised Joe’s entrepreneurial spirit and the ambitious nature of the new development. The project includes the construction of a three-storey complex on Ratu Mara Road, with completion expected by December of next year.
His journey reflects a remarkable ability to adapt and reinvent his business ventures. As a serial entrepreneur, Joe has donned many roles, including farmer, golfer, exporter, grocer, business consultant, and investor.
“We established a joint venture with Cibus New Zealand to export locally grown produce from various farms across the country,” he explained. “Additionally, we are collaborating with the Government to create contracts for farmers.”
One of his upcoming business endeavors will come to fruition this month, as he prepares to export coconuts and dalo from Rotuma. Joe noted, “A truck will travel around the island to gather these products for export, marking a first for Rotuma.” He added, “We are executing the first shipment from Rotuma to New Zealand.”
Joe attributes his success to a simple principle: “Fear the Lord.”
