Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School narrowly defeated Queen Victoria School in a thrilling Vodafone Super Deans under-14 quarter-final match, finishing with a score of 18-15. Despite a late surge from QVS, which included two tries, MGM managed to secure victory, keeping the enthusiastic crowd engaged throughout the game.
With this win, MGM advances to the semi-finals set for next weekend, where they will compete against either Lelean Memorial School, Ratu Kadavulevu School, or Marist Brothers High School.
Team manager Miriama Lutubulo remarked, “As we prepare for the semis, we will maintain our training regimen and work even harder. We understand the competition will become tougher, but we are committed to improving.”
MGM led 15-3 at halftime, with their sole points in the second half coming from a penalty kick. Lutubulo expressed pride in the team, stating, “It was very nerve-wracking, but we had faith in our boys to hold their ground, and they did.” She emphasized the motivation the players feel from their families, school, and friends, especially when seeing their parents in attendance, which inspires them to perform.
