The Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma is planning to enhance its business operations with the launch of a service station, shopping complex, and a ten-story building within the next two years. Furthermore, the church envisions establishing its own broadcasting company for television and radio as part of a five to ten-year expansion strategy.
Manasa Vatanitawake, Secretary of the Communication Department, emphasized that the primary goal of these initiatives is to assist the community and support the church’s mission. “We want to make it clear that we are not setting up the business to profit the church,” Vatanitawake stated. He explained that the aim is to aid the people and disseminate the church’s message.
The service station in Davuilevu and the shopping complex are expected to open by March or April 2025. The Lako Yani ten-story building is anticipated to follow in 2026. These projects are seen as vital for generating funds to support the church’s mission, focusing on reaching out to individuals through the gospel and addressing their daily needs.
Additionally, the Methodist Church has informed its congregation that the regular $15 levy will now be reduced to $13.50, as the church plans to utilize its commercial ventures to cover the $1.50 per person payment.
