Methodist Church in Fiji: A Revival on the Horizon?

The Assistant General Secretary of the Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma, Reverend Anil Reuben, asserts that the church is undergoing a revival. As one of the longest-serving ministers, he shared his insights into this positive transformation, stating, “The president of the church includes us in his decision-making. The church is reviving.” He emphasized the importance of restoring the church’s lost image and noted an increase in the participation of children in church activities.

The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Restoring the Lost Image of Christ within the Methodist Church in Fiji.’ Reverend Reuben highlighted the presence of many Methodists among incarcerated individuals and stressed the church’s commitment to addressing this issue. “We are lacking in areas such as prisons and hospitals. We must ensure that we continue to reach out to these places,” he remarked.

Church President Reverend Semisi Turagavou recognized the challenges the church faces in acting as a prophetic voice and spiritual guide for the nation. He called for collective acceptance of the vision to restore the lost image of Christ as the church’s mission for 2024-2025. Reverend Turagavou urged members to think creatively and emphasized, “This is our time. We need to think outside the box. The time is always right to do what is right.”

He also expressed faith in divine guidance, stating, “God is forming and reforming His church, and He’s calling us to partner with Him and elevate the church to another level.”
