Methodist Church in Fiji: A Revival on the Horizon?

Reverend Anil Reuben, the Assistant General Secretary of the Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma, has expressed his belief that the church is currently experiencing a revival. As one of the longest-serving ministers, he provided insights into this revitalization.

“The president of the church includes us in his decision-making. The church is reviving,” Reverend Reuben stated. He emphasized the importance of restoring the church’s lost image, noting that he has observed a significant increase in children’s attendance at various churches where he has preached.

This year’s conference theme is “Restoring the Lost Image of Christ within the Methodist Church in Fiji.” Reverend Reuben pointed out that many individuals in prison are Methodists, highlighting the church’s commitment to changing such perceptions. He mentioned, “We are lacking in areas such as prisons and hospitals. We must ensure that we continue to reach out to these places.”

Church President Reverend Semisi Turagavou also acknowledged the challenges the church faces in its role as a prophetic voice and spiritual guide for the nation. He stated, “We should rise and move to another level.” He proposed that the church collectively accept the vision of restoring the lost image of Christ as its mission for the upcoming year, 2024-2025.

“This is our time. We need to think outside the box. The time is always right to do what is right,” Reverend Turagavou added. “God is forming and reforming His church, and He’s calling us to partner with Him and elevate the church to another level.”
