Reverend Anil Reuben, the Assistant General Secretary of the Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma, believes the church is undergoing a revival. Known for being one of the longest-serving ministers, he shared his insights on this resurgence, stating, “The president of the church includes us in his decision-making. The church is reviving.”
He emphasized the importance of restoring the church’s image, noting, “I have been preaching in many places and see that many children are filling up the church.” The theme for this year’s conference is “Restoring the Lost Image of Christ within the Methodist Church in Fiji.”
Reverend Reuben also highlighted the need for the church to address issues surrounding its incarcerated members, discussing the perception that many imprisoned individuals are Methodists. He stated, “We are lacking in areas such as prisons and hospitals. We must ensure that we continue to reach out to these places.”
Reverend Semisi Turagavou, President of the Methodist Church of Fiji and Rotuma, recognized the challenges the church faces in its role as a spiritual guide for the nation. He encouraged collective acceptance of their mission for 2024-2025, which focuses on regaining the lost image of Christ. “This is our time. We need to think outside the box. The time is always right to do what is right,” Reverend Turagavou declared, asserting that God is working to transform the church and calls upon its members to partner with Him to elevate the church.
