Accessible and affordable mental health resources are crucial in addressing issues of domestic violence and drug abuse in Fiji. Esiteri Salele, a 23-year-old, has decided to participate in the 2024 Nasinu Town Festival as a queen contestant, motivated by the social challenges she has observed in her community.
Sponsored by Pacific Fishing Company Pte Ltd (PAFCO), Salele is one of seven contestants competing for the crown during the week-long festival. The Somosomo, Taveuni villager expressed her belief in the importance of strengthening mental health support and promoting spiritual growth to enhance overall well-being, reduce stress, and improve family dynamics.
Salele aims to advocate for the significance of family values as a means to tackle issues such as unemployment, school dropouts, drug abuse, cyberbullying, and domestic violence. The festival will take place from August 17 to August 24 at the Valelevu grounds.
