The annual Melbourne Cup at Heineken House in Denarau was a resounding success, raising funds for the “Run to Give” initiative. Neeraj Chadha, the Multi-Property Vice President of Fiji and Samoa for Marriott International and General Manager of the Westin and Sheraton Resorts Fiji Complex, emphasized that this event has been a longstanding tradition aimed at fostering fun, celebration, and community engagement over the past six years.

The funds generated from this event will specifically benefit Markets for Change, a UNICEF program, which aims to empower women entrepreneurs who are working diligently to expand their small businesses. Recently, hotels across Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji collectively raised over $30,000 through the ‘Run to Give’ program, showcasing a strong spirit of collaboration among the hotel industry.

The event drew over a hundred attendees, including tourists and members of the Nadi Hash Harriers, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with entertainment, delicious food, and beverages. Participants enjoyed a variety of activities, including an art auction and a performance by the Vou Dance group, all while contributing to a noble cause.

Among the attendees, PNG-based Eva Mcgoon remarked on the dual purpose of the event—not only was it a time to enjoy good food and drinks, but it also served to support meaningful charity efforts.

This year’s event was backed by sponsors Heineken, Lanson, and DGRC, further highlighting the community’s commitment to supporting local businesses and charitable programs.

Overall, the Melbourne Cup event in Denarau serves as a shining example of how communities can come together for both enjoyment and to support those in need, reinforcing the idea that fun and giving can go hand-in-hand.

Summary: The Melbourne Cup at Heineken House successfully raised funds for the “Run to Give” initiative, benefiting women entrepreneurs through UNICEF’s Markets for Change program. The event, attended by over a hundred people, featured entertainment and activities aimed at supporting local businesses and fostering community spirit.
