The recent Melbourne Cup event held at the Heineken House in Denarau successfully raised funds for the ‘Run to Give’ initiative. This annual gathering, which has taken place for six years, aims to not only foster a fun and celebratory environment but also engage the local community in meaningful charitable work.
Neeraj Chadha, Multi-Property Vice President for Fiji and Samoa Marriott International and General Manager of Westin and Sheraton Resorts Fiji Complex, highlighted that this year’s fundraising efforts will benefit Markets for Change, a UNICEF program. Hotels across Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji participated in these efforts, contributing approximately $30,000 to support the cause. The funds will particularly assist women entrepreneurs in building their small businesses within their communities.
The event drew over a hundred attendees, including tourists and local participants such as the Nadi Hash Harriers, and was animated by art auctions, performances from the Vou Dance group, and a variety of food and beverages. Attendee Eva Mcgoon from Papua New Guinea remarked on the event’s dual purpose of enjoyment and charity.
Support for this worthwhile event came from sponsors including Heineken, Lanson, and DGRC.
This initiative not only promotes fun and community engagement but also underscores the impact of collective efforts in supporting local entrepreneurs and charitable causes. It’s a testament to the power of community involvement in making a meaningful difference.
In summary, the Melbourne Cup at Heineken House marks a celebration of both culture and compassion, reinforcing the importance of community support in fostering local development.
