The annual Melbourne Cup celebration at the Heineken House in Denarau played a significant role in supporting the ‘Run to Give’ initiative yesterday. This event is part of a longstanding commitment by the Marriott International property, which has been organizing this gathering for the past six years to foster community engagement, fun, and charity.

According to Neeraj Chadha, Multi-Property Vice President for Fiji and Samoa at Marriott International and General Manager of the Westin and Sheraton Resorts Fiji Complex, the funds raised during this year’s event will benefit ‘Markets for Change,’ a UNICEF program that has seen participation from hotels across Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji, accumulating over $30,000 to date. Chadha emphasized that the proceeds are crucial in supporting women entrepreneurs who are striving to establish and grow their small businesses, making a lasting impact on their communities.

The Melbourne Cup event, which is widely celebrated in Australia, attracted over 100 participants, including tourists and local groups like the Nadi Hash Harriers. The occasion featured an enjoyable atmosphere filled with entertainment, including performances from the Vou Dance group, a painting auction, and a variety of food and drinks, all while contributing to an important charitable cause.

Attendee Eva Mcgoon from Papua New Guinea highlighted the event as a delightful way to engage in charity while savoring good food and drinks. The event received vital support from sponsors such as Heineken, Lanson, and DGRC.

This year’s Melbourne Cup not only brought together people for a joyous occasion but also reinforced the spirit of giving back to the community, showcasing how fun events can create a positive impact.

Summary: The Melbourne Cup event at the Heineken House raised funds for the ‘Run to Give’ initiative, supporting women entrepreneurs through UNICEF’s ‘Markets for Change’ program. This annual celebration attracted over 100 attendees and emphasized community engagement, fun, and charity.
